Dreamwood Writers

Dreamwood centers and honors the stories of women-identifying writers of color.  Many of these narratives have been passed down from one generation to the next.  They belong to our sisters, mothers, cousins and grandmothers.  They are rich in wisdom, and they are revelatory.

In recognition of the particular needs of women-identifying writers of color, Dreamwood workshops provide a supportive and nurturing environment in which the writer’s individual strengths are recognized and affirmed.  Writers are encouraged to write in the language, dialect or vernacular that feels most comfortable to them.  During workshops, they are also encouraged to speak and share their goals for their own work. In dialogue, their peers will help them solve the many challenges of craft and good storytelling that any writer faces on a daily basis. At the heart of the Dreamwood ethos is our faith in community and what we are able to achieve in solidarity with one another.
